What have we been up to?

2024 VETsteddFOOD

Last week we held our annual VETsteddFOOD event at Julia Reserve Community Centre, Oran Park.

VETsteddFOOD is a unique event – a FREE 2 course lunch and show for local seniors, run entirely by VET students, supervised by MWLP staff.

Hospitality students prepare, cook and serve main meals and desserts, while Entertainment students manage a variety of primary and high school performers on stage.

This year we held 4 matinee shows for local seniors and 1 dinner show for parents of the work placement students and performers – all shows were a sell out with 480 guests attending across 5 shows.

Thank you to our sponsors Camden Council and Camden Comfort & Mobility Centre, without your support this event would not have been the success that it was.

We’d also like to say a big thank you to the Work Placement students and performers from the following schools:

🔸 Oran Park High School
🔹 Mount Annan High School
🔸 Eagle Vale High School
🔹 Elderslie High School
🔸 Campbelltown Performing Arts High School
🔹 St Patrick’s College for Girls, Campbelltown
🔸 St. Justin’s Catholic Parish Primary School, Oran Park

AWS Virtual Work Placement Week, 13-17 May 2024

Last week as our team hosts students who undertook their Information & Digital Technology Work Placement virtually with Amazon Web Services.

Over 500 VET students from more than160 schools and TAFE’s across NSW took part in this huge virtual work placement experience!😲😲

MWLP are hosted students at 2 locations for the week.

In our office we had students from Mount Annan HS, John Therry Catholic College, Elizabeth Macarthur HS, Elderslie HS and Ambarvale HS.

Offsite we hosted students from LaSalle Catholic College Bankstown, Homebush Boys HS, Concord HS and De La Salle College Revesby at the new Western Sydney University campus in the heart of Bankstown.

This was such an amazing opportunity for the students to be able to connect with AWS staff who mentored them through the world of cloud computing, covering topics such as cyber security, web development, data analysis and artificial intelligence.

APM presents MWLP with a Partnership Certificate

Earlier this week our CEO David and our ELA Program Coordinator Greg, caught up with Graham Edwards from APM Employment Services.

APM is a global health, employment, disability, and workplace services provider now supporting more than 2.1 million people across 11 countries each year. They provide a wide-range of services for a variety of people with injury, illness or disability, children and older adults, unemployed people, and those facing hardship or harm.

Graham has been assisting us with helping some of our Entry Level Academy (ELA) graduates to find suitable employment. He popped in for a quick chat and to present us with a partnership certificate that signifies our support of increasing participation of people with disability, injury or health conditions in employment.
