Students studying for their Higher School Certificate in 2012 have more subject choice than ever before thanks to the Board of Studies who recently introduced a new curriculum framework called Financial Services.
Successful completion of the course allows students to gain a Certificate III in Financial Services as well as credit towards their ATAR.
A compulsory requirement of the course is that students must complete one week’s work placement in Year 11 and a further week in Year 12.
Local organisation MWLP currently places some 3,000 HSC students into Macarthur businesses each year and it was up to them to find the first business to take on the Financial Services students.
All it took was one meeting with Westpac and they were on board. Geoff McCarthy, Campbelltown’s Bank Manager, was eager for Westpac to become involved. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community and offer students relevant work placement. It will also allow us to see them in action and assess their suitability for possible future vacancies. Students will also get to see if the world of banking is for them. I see it as a win/win situation and we look forward to having our first student”, said Geoff.
Students will need to participate in OHS processes, work effectively with others, process financial transactions, perform financial calculations and work well in the financial services industry.
Should any other Financial Services business want to get involved they should contact MWLP on 4625 1863. The students are fully insured and FREE and it’s a great way to showcase your business!!
