Work Placement a Success
The Macarthur region could be flush with bank managers in the future, thanks to MWLP and Westpac. The two entities joined forces this year to help year 11 and 12 students find work placements for the new HSC financial services course.
Financial services have replaced the previous accounting course but required students to undertake work placement. Campbelltown Westpac bank manager Geoff McCarthy said he was eager for his bank to be involved. ‘It’s a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community and offer students relevant work placement”.
“It will allow us to see them in action and assess their suitability for future vacancies” he said. Mr McCarthy said the program was also a chance for students to see whether the world of banking was for them. During placements students will participate in occupational health and safety processes, learn to work effectively with others, process financial transactions and perform financial calculations. Ambarvale High School’s Jordan Sosa was the first student to participate in the program at Westpac. The 16 year old said he learnt a lot about banking. “Each day I focused on one aspect, starting with teller operations”.
