Outstanding Business of the Month: Curran Public School, Macquarie Fields
Curran Public School was established in 1975 and its vision is to equip all students with strategies to actively pursue their learning to achieve their potential, develop productive relationships and contribute positively to society.
They offer Year 11 and 12 students, who are studying Information Technology as part of their HSC, the opportunity to experience real working life within the school.
Kathy Strong, Principal, feels the need to support students to achieve success throughout their lives and by providing these types of workplace opportunities, students are supported in a very caring environment. Students are encouraged to work hard and are given a fantastic insight into technology in school, which is very different to a business situation. They interact with the much younger pupils and are treated as equals by the staff. Work is tailored to the students’ needs and their particular area of interest and they are also made aware of some of the career opportunities that exist in IT within the Department of Education.
