ALMOST 100 jobs were given away to young jobseekers at a special expo earlier this month.
Get that Job Day allowed 184 young people to have interviews with employers and group training organisations for fulltime apprenticeship and traineeship positions for 2012.
Jobs on offer covered a range of industries including plumbing, mechanics, hospitality, office administration, spray painting and more.
The expo, held on November 17 at Campbelltown Catholic Club, was a joint initiative between MWLP, Automotive Group Training and the NSW Education Department.
High school students were given interview tips and techniques before commencing the interviews and were debriefed afterwards.
MWLP marketing and communications manager Sue Scobie said years 10, 11 and 12 students took part in the expo.
“For some students it was their first interview ever and just getting through it gave them an air of confidence that they didn’t have earlier,” she said.
“Others progressed to a second interview and there is no doubt that job offers will follow.
“Feedback was excellent and employers commented on the high calibre of students.”
One Macarthur region student, who wished to stay anonymous, said he got a lot out of Get that Job Day.
“I was so nervous and didn’t know what to expect but everyone has been so helpful and friendly,” he said. “I think I did pretty well because I’ve progressed to a second interview.
“Today has been a fantastic experience and I feel I’m now on the road towards a great career path.”
