Auburn Tyre & Mechanical Services has been established for over 30 years. Current owners Eddy Taras and Tarkan Yuksel took over the business some four years ago. Their areas of expertise are mechanical work, supply and fitting of tyres and registration inspections.
They offer year 11 and 12 students, who are studying Automotive as part of the Higher School Certificate, weekly work placements in their workshop.
Students assist tradespeople, clean, check tyre pressure and fill in drop cards in the week they are there.
Co-owner, Eddy Taras, says “Overall the students are well mannered and switched on. We like to observe them in the week they are with us. We look for students who are honest, listen and ask questions. Attitude counts – it is everything! The MWLP Linking Youth Program is a good way for us to find future apprentices. We have offered students casual work with us as well.” (more…)

“It’s a good opportunity to see the calibre of Macarthur’s youth. We get to screen those with potential that will ultimately benefit the company. The students are encouraged to ask lots of questions to assess whether this industry is right for them. It’s a win-win situation.”
