The highly successful and inaugural Apprenticeship and Traineeship Expo was held recently at Ingleburn RSL as part of the Macarthur Jobs and Training Expo 2011.
Over 150 students from Airds, Ambarvale, Ingleburn, James Meehan, Macquarie Fields, Mount Annan and Robert Townson High Schools attended. The Expo provided job opportunities for students seeking Apprenticeships and Traineeships across a range of fields.
Students learnt about a variety of career pathways. They were also informed of the educational and personal attributes that employers are looking for that will ultimately improve their chances of getting the job they want.
There were Employers and Group Training Organisations available to talk with our young people about their career aspirations and students were able to submit their resumes for available positions.
Try A Trade activities were provided by the local TAFE Institutes and a local beautician gave students an opportunity to learn some tricks of their trade.
Information sessions were also held on”Hints on How to get an Apprenticeship or Traineeship” by ABL Apprenticeship Centre, “Resume Writing and Job Interview Techniques” by Career Zone, “Getting the Right Attitude for Work” by The Lighthouse Project and “School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships” by the Department of Education and Communities.
Feedback from the day was outstanding. Janelle Henson from MWLP said “We were delighted to be a part of this inaugural event. This type of Expo is vital for our High School students. It gives them a wonderful insight into life after school.”
