Year 11 and 12 students studying Business Services as part of their Higher School Certificate are participating in a work hub at MWLP Linking Youth.
Up to six students each and every week are given a comprehensive overview of how a business operates.
From creating floor plans and organisation charts, to learning excel, mastering telephone techniques, creating advertisements, exploring WHS, emailing, mail merge and data entry.
They become Marketing & Communication officers reviewing websites and writing good news stories. Students also learn the importance of customer service.
This week MWLP hosted students from Picton High School, Robert Townson High School, St Patrick’s College and Elderslie High School.
Clockwise from bottom left Maddy Leehy (Elderslie High), Ashley Booker (Robert Townson High), Rhianan Gray (Picton High) and Alexandra McCormack (St Patricks College)
Feedback from the students has been very positive:
“I was never really interested in office work but once I went on my placement and actually ‘lived’ in an office environment, I found out how many different aspects to the business environment there is.”
“It’s been really informative and it’s given me skills.”
“I had the best time working at MWLP. I was so nervous on the first day but felt relieved when I finished at the end of the day. I have learnt a lot. You learn so much from the staff members and from the business itself, plus you can put your work placement on your resume to let future employers know that you’ve had experience in the workplace and are aware of the policies and procedures most businesses follow.”
MWLP Linking Youth currently has over 500 businesses supporting their program, but are seeking more work placement opportunities for Business Services students. They will not pass their Higher School Certificate unless they complete one week’s placement in Year 11 and a further week in Year 12.
There are many benefits for business. You will have access to the workforce of the future and an additional pair of hands. The students are fully insured and free.

You could even feature as our Business of the Month!
